What We Do
What is in-home pet sitting? Our business consists of visiting your home and taking care of your pet’s needs there. Whether you are going out of town of just have a pet that needs walked, Abbotts is there to do the job.
Our visits include fresh food and water for your pet, a potty break time or litter box cleaning. Doggy or cat treats are given if allowed and a little one-on-one play time is included. We visit your home at least once a day to observe and tend to your pet. Multiple visits per day are possible and are especially recommended for dogs.
Our dog walking program includes daily walks for pets whose owners work and whose pets have a need for daily exercise.
In addition to our chargeable services, we also off a number of optional free services in conjunction with paid visits including:
- Bringing in your mail
- Bringing in your newspapers
- Watering indoor plants
- Watering outdoor plants (there may be a small extra fee if the watering is extensive)
- Changing lights and drapes to give your home an occupied look while you are away
- Taking out and bringing in your trash cans
We believe Abbotts Pet Sitting is a better alternative to kenneling your pet while you are away.
Advantages of In-Home Pet Sitting
There are many advantages for you and your pet by having someone come to your home to tend to your pet.
For the pet:
- Your pet stays in his familiar surroundings
- Your pet gets individual attention during your absence
- Your pet follows its regular routine
- Your pet is observed each day and any changes are immediately reported to you
- Your pet suffers less separation anxiety knowing he will be seeing someone each day while you are gone
- Your pet will receive some kind of play or exercise time daily
For you:
- Peace of mind that your pet is receiving regular and quality care daily
- You will not have to inconvenience friends or neighbors to take care of your pet
- Your house will be observed each day. If anything appears out of the ordinary you will be immediately notified
- Your property will be well cared for
- Your home can have a lived-in look during your absence
Our Procedure
Each potential job begins with a contact to set up a free initial interview with you and your animal. This way we can tell if the animal will accept us. During this time we interact with and observe your pet and its reaction to us.
If our service is something you would desire and we find we are compatible with your pet, we will ask you to read and sign our contract. Also at this time we will ask you to provide us with two house keys. We use one key for visits and keep the other secured in our office in case there is some reason we need back up. We generally ask for house keys even if you have an electronic security system. Electricity has been known to fail in our area and we would not want your pet to go without care should there be an electrical problem.
After that we will need to take a tour of your home to locate food, feeding dishes, treats, litter boxes, leashes and any other supplies that might be needed. We do like to have access to supplies in case your pet has an ‘accident’ in your home while you are away.
We try to adhere to your pet’s regular schedule as closely as possible and we always treat your pet as we would one of our own.
We insist that our clients keep us informed as to their return. Many times flights are delayed, bad weather prohibits driving or any other number of things can hinder a timely return. We would not want your pet to suffer should your travel schedule change. You would be charged for any extra visits past your stated return date. Conversely, should you return home earlier than expected, you will not be charged for visits not made. It is to your advantage to call us immediately upon your return.
At the end of the contracted time we will schedule another free visit to return your keys and present our invoice.
